Kick-Butt Author and Publishing Tips and Ahas

Kick butt sheep test 2

Don’t you love quick tips … ones that turn on the light bulb and you think–I can do that? Ideas were popping everywhere from the webinar I did last month with Joel Friedlander, Amy Collins, Joan Stewart and Kelly Johnson… I love it when I have pen and paper out, writing them as fast as the poured from my colleagues. You want to listen to the full hour. Download it on the Publishing at Sea website here … and come on the cruise in January of 2016. All details here.

  1. If you’re a DIYer and doing your own book formatting, stick with a standard book font like Garamond, Caslon, or Jenson.
  2. Offer a portion of your books for fundraisers and donations. Doing good is not just the right thing to do, it helps with what I call “karmic marketing.”
  3. If all you’re do is inviting people to connect on LinkedIn, and accepting their invitations, you’re leaving money on the table. The world’s #1 business networking site has a variety of tools that can help you find your target market, promote your expertise, connect with influencers, build your email list, and build a fan base.

  1. Doing my due diligence and came across your site… I to like tips. They seem to make the world go round in a faster way. All you need sometimes is that one word or suggestion. That one thing that you know you know you know… like your tip today about donations. This is a great one. Even if you leave one here and there at the little Free Library sharing boxes that are popping up all over the place… or at your local elder or assisted living facility. There are fun things to do too… like when you go to a library, leave one open on the table, or on a bench at the train station… all goodwill places and like you say… “karmic marketing.

Thanks for the lighthearted smart thinking.

  2. For book formatting, I’ve found a lot of authors don’t want to pay for premium fonts (even though I think they should) and if they’re DIYing, they want free fonts, so I made a list of best free fonts for book formatting here:

I wish I could come on the cruise this year and meet you and Joel, but we’ll be on the way to Taiwan by then. I’ll probably bump into you at some future writing conferences. Thanks for all the great info!
