Author Success: Don’t talk about doing it … DO IT!

One for the money, two for the show … two for the show … two for the show … doesn’t get stuff done.

Okay … what’s that all about. Have you ever told yourself that you were going to get something done … and it lingers like a stinky cheese that should have been tossed long ago? I have.

On my personal shortlist is dumping my master closet and rearranging. It’s been bugging me for months. I hit the second bedroom shortly after COVID-19 debuted. Every morning, I tell myself … this weekend. And then the weekend comes, and I’m pulled in multiple directions—sometimes, a direction where I just went to loaf for a few hours. I also have the “redo” of an armoire that I store summer shirts and wear—it needs to be fine-tuned with winter pushed to the back.

I’m a huge advocate of vocalizing/declaring intentions … you are going to do it. It’s so easy to get waylaid, redirected, you-name-it. It happens.

Forward. This AM, I pulled everything out of the armoire and dumped on the floor in the master bedroom—no more “I want to do…” it’s a YOU ARE going to do this and get it done today. I brought a chair in to sit and mull and then rearrange. It got an hour of my time. DONE.

Next, I brought in a ladder to the master bedroom closet. Garbage bags to move things to the back of the car, then to the Goodwill. If I haven’t worn it in two years—adios. Items were coordinated in color and shelves emptied from above. Most kept … but gone. Gloriously gone!

On my list is the garage … I know I need help here and have already reached out for muscle power. Goal by June 20th is to have one-third rearranged/gone—Goldie is arriving in July, and she will need “her spot” to bask in her new home.

For authoring and author advocacy, it’s all-new videos. I’ve finally got the lights that “work” two weeks ago. My green screen arrived this week. I’ve got topics written out. I know how long each will be. The goal is 10 new videos a week for a month. Time: As soon as I can get a hair cut … I start.

Tell others WHAT you are going to do.
Tell them WHEN you are going to finish it.
Tell them if there are a hiccup and you are DELAYED.  You get one pass.

Get it done. It’s the secret sauce to YOUR success.

Hugs,
