What’s the Rush?

The calendar tells me that winter in Colorado is turning into spring. From my deck, I’ve noticed that the dog walkers have picked up as well as those who are bicyclists. The other day, two of them were racing down the center of a long stretch of roadway.

I live in a quiet neighborhood. As I watched the speedsters hunker lower over their handlebars, I said out loud, “Why are you racing? What’s the rush? And what are you trying to win?”

For authors, maybe the win is the ride.

Maybe the win is writing … and learning to write.

Maybe it’s crossing the line, knowing your book is ready for publishing.

Maybe the win is saying, “I did it and I have no regrets.”

Maybe it’s not racing through the race.

Sometimes, just enjoy the ride is the big win.
