Book Promotion by Death
One of the great lies: if you have a traditional publisher, it will do an effective book promotion.
The myth: There is no such thing as effective book promotion by a book publisher.
The truth: if you are on the A+ list, the celebrity of the month, there will be promotion.
The truth: Unless you are an A+ list author or are a celebrity, there will be very little to no promotion of the book with a publisher/.
Think Baldacci, Grisham, Turow, Sparks, Ephron, Atwood, Rowling, Hoover … there will be massive promotion from their publishers. In 2023, eight books topped one million in sales. Hoover authored two of them.
There were 767 million books sold last year from traditional, hybrid, independent, and small presses according to Publishers Weekly. Over 75,000 titles. But out of the titles published last year in the US alone, maybe 100 were effectively promoted by the publishers.
This leaves a huge gap.
The truth: If you want book and author success, it’s up to you.
