Finding Your Book Niche and Riding the Wave

Niche Books and Niche Publishing
Deliver Bankable Results

When authors say their book is for everybody, a reality check is needed.

Your book is not for everyone. Ever. My truthiness: the more you niche yourself, the bigger your fan base; the greater your reader market will become. By becoming the big fish in the pond vs. the little fish in the very big pond author success has a greater opportunity to enter your book life. Or, as I say to my clients: you want to become the whale in a pond vs. the sardine in the sea.

Drill down … “who” is in your “Who I Write For” column? Where do they hang out? What groups do they belong to? What associations or memberships might they joining? What do they read? Where do they live? How old are they? What are their habits? Do they marry? Are they singles? Female or male? What kind of hobbies do they enjoy? What else?

You get the picture … successful authors need to know exactly who they are writing and publishing for. When you find the need of a group, a cause, a hobby, industry, etc., you can fill it with the wisdom your words deliver.

Build on it with research, studies, articles, speaking, and visibility. It’s not an overnight happening. But with time, you will find that you are in the company that you enjoy. In the end, you become the “go-to” person.
