My Personal Favorite Mottos

My Personal Favorite Mottos …

Several times a week, I randomly open my book of 400 quotes, Snappy Sassy Salty Success: Wise Words for Authors and Writers. When the page opens, my eyes fall in. There will be anywhere from one to six quotes in front of me.

Where will they land?

In a few seconds, one is read … and the book is closed. I think about the words. Chew over them.

When I open each podcast, I open up Snappy Sassy Salty Success: Wise Words for Authors and Writers to the section I will be creating the show around—writing, marketing, publishing success, or inspiration. Author success is always at the core.

My eyes drop in and I say into the mic whatever the quote is and open the show, tying the theme of it to the quote that sets the stage for the hour to unfold.

Two of my favorite quotes that I recite often to coaching clients are:

Being and staying FOCUSED is at their core message for my receiver.

The messages:

  1. You can’t do it all … nor should you. If the author succeeds in the goal, then narrowing your exposure during the writing process is essential. Saying NO is a good thing.
  2. You may be good at lots and learn new skills fast. The question is, should you? Is your time better spent writing and finishing your book? Is your time better spent reaching out and marketing your book? Yes, you can play around with designing an interior, creating a cover, and being the only editor. The question is, should you?

Smart authors learn that they need not do it all. Or put the energy into learning something that is important, but not in their wheelhouse.

If you remember to not do well what you have no business doing, you will most likely save oodles of time and frustration. And screwups.

My two bits.
