Finding Your Sweet Spot to Write—Find it. Go to It. Write.
This past week, I was away, The location was Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas and the annual Publishing at Sea. Besides delivering three days of workshops, the possibility of going off ship and visiting other cultures, and the window to do some writing.
Sometimes in my stateroom … sometimes on my ocean balcony … sometimes in the adults only Solarium. My away sweet spots. In the past, I would stay an extra week just to work on my next book. This year, I didn’t have the luxury … but I did find the time to write up 20 recipes to include for what’s coming before summer: Appetizers with Judith-Yummy Nibbles and Starters that WOW! Your Guests. A few hours on the balcony, in my stateroom and four hours on the flight home.
By the end of March, I planned to be done with all writing … and then start taking photos of completed dishes. Something my neighbors love—they get to eat through them.
Author Success comes from the Commitment Factor. Your sweet spot is your space … however you choose to create it. You move into your zone, excluding the outside noise. Find your Sweet Spot to Zone out. Go to it. Now write. Your book … and its readers … await your words.
What’s your space … your sweet spot?
P.S. While I was on the ship, I strolled toward the back called the Boardwalk on deck 6. As I entered, the first thing I encountered was a large block of wood … a block that in five steps evolved to a carousel horse for the popular merry go around that gently whirled kids and adults through out the day and early evening to their delight. As I passed each of the wood blocks that was a demo of carving, it reminded me of my own writing … the ideas, the evolution of them, and the finished product.
