In Colorado? Want Publishing Help One Saturday a Month Free?

Each month, I roll up my sleeves and put on my think cap on the second Saturday for any author or author-in-the-works to come over, hang out, and ask questions about publishing. Would that be something you would like to be involved with? You can … and I’ve been offering this to Colorado authors for several years. Fifteen years ago, … I called them Armchairs … then Circles … and now, I’m transitioning to SALONS … part of the title I used with the many of the mini-workshops that were subject driven, and I delivered in the early 2000s. I’ve always loved the concept of a salon—gathering, schmoozing and sharing information.

Here’s my version today and they are open to anyone:

A SALON is a gathering of people under the roof of an encouraging and inspiring host. It’s held partly to increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation and partly to create an environment of support and camaraderie for those who get-together.

Your host is Judith Briles, The Book Shepherd and the SALONS are held in her home in the southeast Metro Denver area. Gatherings are monthly, usually the second Saturday with hot coffee and teas welcoming those who come. Each AuthorYOU SALON begins with an answer to a question that has been posted by the participants.

Judith is the author of 37 books, the latest being When God Says NO—Revealing the YES When Adversity and Loss Are Present. How to Create a $1,000,000 Speech was published in 2019 and How to Avoid 101 Book Publishing Blunders, Bloopers & Boo-Boos in 2017. To round out her publishing books are The Crowdfunding Guide for Authors & Writers, Author YOU: Creating and Building the Author and Book Platforms and Snappy Sassy Salty: Wise Words for Authors and Writers. The needs of authors and writers are different at various times, yet the DNA is the same. Having a Vision, being Passionate with what drives the author; and Commitment to supporting the two.

Welcome to AuthorYOU SALONS …

AuthorYOU SALONS are about how-to, what-for and why-not now. Think of it as an experience that is safe for authors at all levels; always sharing usable information and fun.

AuthorYOU SALONS are about the education, mentoring of authors and writers in the fields of writing, authoring and publishing books.

AuthorYOU SALONS are FREE … you bring a HEALTHY SNACK to share when attending LIVE meetings, the second Saturday of the month … and some NEW SOCKS.

AuthorYOU SALONS are held normally on the second Saturday of the month.

AuthorYOU SALONS sponsors the annual Author Autumn Tea, a celebration of authors and new books open to the public.

We promise: Your answers to publishing questions are in the room. Within the SALON. If you have a specific question about your authoring journey; publishing; social media for marketing, you will find it. Egos are left at the door. Think of Author YOU SALONS as a mini-mastermind group with laser coaching attached–whatever your question is about authoring, books, publishing, the answer is in the room. You can’t beat that!

A gathering spot has been created to schmooze with other authors on a monthly Saturday morning. In the beginning, each person is asked: What do you need to know today to help with your publishing journey? Your answer and the agenda is set. We all:

  • brainstorm ideas
    • get a little feedback (sometimes a lot)
    • ask questions about a book in the works or already published
    • figure out book marketing
    • hang with other authors
    • learn the latest in social media strategies
    • get feedback on writing or an idea that’s percolating
    • whatever pops into your mind …

… it just must be authoring, writing and/or publishing connected. In other words … get some help. There is NO set agenda … what there will be as a stream of ideas and thoughts that will be shared and can be used to enrich your writing, your authoring and your success.

Cost: Free to begin.  There’s a “donation” jar by the coffee if you are so inclined to support the Meetup Organization annual fees (they run $15 a month). Judith Briles donates her time to you.

Rules: This is a free exchange of ideas and questions–Is there a book in the works? Are you stuck? Curious about the various publishing options? Do you just need to hang and schmooze occasionally with other authors? Ask your questions … you’ll get answers. And, this is a “pay it forward” group–we help each other along this path. If you sign up and have two “no-shows,” you will be put on the waiting list for future slots-each gathering has limited space.

Does the AuthorYOU SALON  sound like a plan for you? Created in a “Salon” type environment–coffee, tea, and water will be available. If you come, bring a snack to share with others. You show up at 9 and leave by noon—sometimes for the whole time, maybe just an hour.

Think of the AuthorYOU SALONS as the old-fashioned quilting circle–in our case, it’s more like the Authors’ SALON—and a vibrant one it is. Join us and share your words and work and come away with insights and ahas.
