Dr. Judith’s Saturday Blog – Be A Doer … Not a Dreamer

                                                                                         Good Enough

When I worked on my doctorate in business administration years ago, one of my professor’s words embedded in me and have stuck for over 30 years: When it is good enough, it is good enough.

Not perfect.

Must it be perfect?

Nope … just good enough so I can move on and complete what I envisioned or desired. In my dissertation quest, did I really need another thousand survey respondents? The answer was a no.

Ask yourself before you get entrapped in the perfection quagmire that can lead to confusion, mistakes, even paralysis in what you are considering:

Is what you are considering doing or engaging worth your time commitment needed to complete it? Is it useful? Can it be completed within the timeframe you’ve set? Will it add to your productive? Is it valuable to you? How about others who could use what you are working on?

Attempting to attain perfection can create a fog. Of course, there are exceptions—there are items and procedures when perfection is required.

But in most cases, good enough is good enough. I got my doctorate. The study I did led to eight additional nationwide studies over 15 years, published 5 books, 1500 media interviews, speaking in 50 states and 20 countries.

My good enough became a grand slam career homerun.
