As a kiddo in elementary school, my report cards would often have a note from my teacher—I needed to learn to be more patient with others. It was a flag to my parents, who rarely cared what I did or said. I was the solo girl with three brothers. They counted, I didn’t. But my many teachers did. “Be more patient with others …” became something I grew into.
The patience lesson carried into adulthood: Look for other value and skills in others that lacked the ones that couldn’t match my own. The return was far greater when my patience stretched the most.
