The Author Success Formula Revisited …

A few weeks ago, I did a blog about the differences of “click” online events only and “brick” in person events. The pros and cons of each.

After attending last week’s annual AuthorU Extravaganza in Denver, Colorado, I firmly believe that to maximize your growth and success quotient, you have got to show up … as in attending events and conferences in person.

The Author Success Formula requires relationships. Relationships that may be have been seeded online, but are birthed in person; then allowed to grow. In person, conferences create that. New friendships are created. Mentors and Mentees come together. Discoveries of new tools are revealed.

Everyone has the answer … at least their answer … to the question: How does an author become successful?

In this season of overwhelming places to be at and things to do, here’s my revised  answer in a few seconds in SIX words as stepping stones:

Learning

Persistence

Perseverance

Relationships

Implementation

Execution

Never give in. Never give in. Not to others who don’t support or believe in your work. Not to yourself because you are tired and just want to move on. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty that a critic or envious author, or even yourself rattles in your ear or head —never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. If you made an error in your writing, don’t blame— just fix it. And let others know you did.

Never yield to force because it’s politically correct or trending and inconsistent with your theme, writing, and ethics. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy—enemies that can be come in all forms, sizes, genders, and voice.

The gift you give to others and to yourself: be true to you … my #1 commandment of building confidence as an author.

So, I’ll end once again with:

Believe in yourself and your work.
Build your inner confidence.

Forge ahead.
